Dyptichs

"Shy"                                      Gurrieri 2015©

My first Dyptich is of yours truly. Here I show where on one side I am shy but when alone, I have a creative side not everyone knows about. Of course this is not true for I am very outgoing and really not that artistic. I'm happy with the final result.

My second Dyptich is of my friend Shivil. I like this picture more than the previous picture. I'm not quite sure but it just gives off this feel that I enjoy more. I find it funny how people believe people, including Shivil, think I used Photoshop to make his arm more "muscular" even though I did nothing to it.

For today's photo walk I decided to research Burger King's French Fries. Fortunately the fries look really similar to the advertisements and they were definitely are delicious.

Surrealism

"How I Think"    Gurrieri 2015 ©

In this project I simply show everyone how my head works. Most of the time I'm never paying attention and focusing on things that are less important. As I continue to think this way my reality slowly falls apart. If there was anything I could change it would be the photo of the sky behind me and I would've erased some of the white around the birds a little more. Overall, I am very pleased with this project.

Surrealistic Artists Research

Vladimir Kush was born in Russia in 1965 and is still around today. Around the young age of seven years he had attended art schools where he had studied Renaissance art, Impressionists and Modern artists. When he was 17 he had enrolled in the Moscow Higher Art and Craft School but shortly after he was drafted to the military. After months of training he ended up not fighting but painting propagandistic posters. After he served his time, he moved onto graduating the Instituted of Fine Arts and since then his career took off. He is also my favorite surreal artist.

Max Ernst was born on April 2, 1891 and died on April 1 1976. German provocateur Max Ernst served in World War 1 the went on to spend a majority of his life in France during World War 2 categorized as an “enemy alien”. Afterwards, along with painting, sculpting and other forms of classic art, he devoted a lot of his time to the game of chess.

"Sunrise by the Ocean" - Unkown

Description: The picture is of an Egg broken in half along the shore line with the sun rising and a person making his way onto the boat.

Analysis: The focal point is most likely the sun and the picture is balanced. The use of shading is also very effective in this photo.

Interpretation: I believe Vladimir is trying to symbolize how everyday is a brand new day and a chance to start fresh.

Judgment: I think Vladimir was very successful with this photo and it is personally one of my favorite surreal art works.

Max Ernst

"Ubu Imperator" - 1923

Description: The texture of the photo is smooth. The only objects visible in this photo are a few clouds in the background and what appears to be a human-like top.

Analysis: Obviously, the focal point is the human-looking object in the center of the photo. Though it is faint, there is an out-of-frame light source and shading allows us to see that clearly.

Interpretation: I have a hard time understanding this photo so I really have no interpretation but if I had to guess it would be that an entire civilization relied on one person.

Judgment: If my interpretation i correct than I believe Max did a very nice job with his work. If I'm wrong, I still believe it is an interesting photo.

Both Vladimir and Max had served time in the war at one point or another. Along with that, they both were skilled in many different forms of art. But in the end, Vladimir Kush and Max Ernst are two very unique artists. As Vladimir bases his works on life and dream like realities, Max expresses his thoughts and how he sees certain things in life.

Surrealistic Theme

For my surreal art work I really want to express my life. The picture is rather simple but there is something about the idea that I just really love.  The idea is to have a self-portrait of me from about the torso to the top of my head floating in the clouds. The cool thing about the work is that my torso will be falling apart will top of my head will be opened up. While my head is open it will be hollow and birds will be flying out.

For this project I will only need a few images. Hopefully all I’ll need is a picture of the sky, a self-portrait, some sort of cracked surface, and a picture of a flock of birds flying. That should be enough to make my photo. As explained before, the picture will be a self-portrait of my in the sky. My torso will be cracked and falling apart. My head on the hand will be open and hollow, as birds fly outward to the sky.

HD Camera for Android

For this project I decided to do a review on the Android app “HD Camera for Android”. The app can be used as an alternate instead of the default camera built into the phone and is found on the Play Store for either Androids or Samsung smart phones. The app includes the option to use either a camera, video recorder or take a panorama picture.

To start off, the camera on this app is decent. I myself always prefer to use the default camera on the Samsung because it has one of the best cameras smart phones have to offer. Setting that thought aside, the app is actually quite handy. It includes features such as options to tweak white adjustments and exposure, HDR which is very handy, flash and a timer.

Here, I have taken 2 very similar pictures of the one and only Joe Francis to compare the default camera (Left) to the app's camera (Right). As you can see, the app does not handle room lighting very well but that is where white adjustments and exposure becomes useful.

The only complaint I have for this app is its panorama function. Yes the option to use it is there but I would not recommend it at all. Below are two panoramas of my photography class and the difference is very noticeable.

The top photo is a panorama taken with the built-in camera for the Samsung smart phone where the bottom is a panorama taken with the app. Not only is the picture radius smaller with the app, but the photo it-self is much more choppy and blurry.

In conclusion, the app "HD Camera for Android" is not a bad app. I would much rather prefer and suggest for an Android or Samsung smart phone owner to use their phone's default camera because of the fact that they have some of the best cameras smart phones have to offer. Other than the fact that the panorama is terrible with this app, both the pictures and videos come out very pleasing. If for whatever reason I had to use an alternate camera app for my phone it would most likely be this one.

These photos were inspired by the inspiring David Hockney. The first is a picture of my stunning friend Shivil where the second is of my school's cafeteria. I myself am not too pleased. I feel like I could have done better but I'm not sure what it is that I could have done. On the other hand I really like the the cafeteria photo.

Self Reflection

I’d Rather Be...

"I'm in Halo"                          Gurrieri 2015 ©

I'm not a huge fan of this picture but I'm pleased with the final result. My favorite part is me holding the magnum but I feel as if I don't really fit in with the picture itself. If I could fix anything it would be the lighting. Once again I'm still happy with the overall picture.
